Ritmo

Exceptional recording of Alicia Amo and Música Boscareccia that rescues Domenico Scarlatti ‘s most forgotten production, his Cantatas, while recreating how his Trisonatas could have been, magnificently composed by Andoni Mercero.

In the three Cantatas recorded for this occasion, the soprano Alicia Amo stands out, showing her extraordinar vocal instrument. Her beautiful timbre and extensive register combine technique and naturalness. Her exquisite pronunciation of the text is accompanied by a magnificent naturalness and expressiveness in the complex recitatives.

The arias of these cantatas are of great beauty and a marked contrast, sometimes sweet and cantábile, sometimes virtuous or brave; what a delight the phrasing of Alicia Amo in Pur nel sonno almen tal’ora, as in Se mi dirai =Cor mio! , with bold da capo ornaments that show off the lavish technique of the soprano, from the absolute mastery of coloraturas to a breathtaking ease in both high and low registers.

The instrumental group also leaves the listener engrossed. Commanded by the beautiful sound of Andoni Mercero, Musica Boscareccia reveals itself as a compact chamber group, with homogeneous articulation, in constant dialogue with each other and with the soloist.

Mercero demonstrates a complete mastery of the compositional techniques of the Baroque in these two triosonatas (D major and D minor), which appear alternated with the three original cantatas by Scarlatti, where the whole cast of Musica Boscareccia delights us with a faultless and tasteful interpretation.

Ritmo

The exquisite sound of his first violin and conductor, Andoni Mercero, had on this occasion the happy incursion of an oboist who can rival him in all aspects, Josep Domènech. The spectacular soloist was magnificently followed by his other instrumentalists who, guided by a tempo very vehemently imposed by Andoni Mercero, were his perfect counterpoint.

It is a real delight to hear Alicia Amo, soprano and cofounder of Musica Boscareccia, for her beautiful fleshy and light voice, for her technical ease and for the lavish comprehension of every text she utters.

Codalario

We must praise the extraordinary performance by the exceptional Alicia Amo, who, as usual, displayed her technical solvency, her vocal refinement, her clear-sounding singing line in the high and a medium-bass register of remarkable presence, besides an expressive capacity and a very elegant and delicate phrasing.

Immaculate in the most demanding and virtuosic movements, she unfolds with great solvency into a soprano of expressive depth in the slowest movements. Her musicality is beyond doubt, and rarely can you witness a soprano capable of undertaking historical repertoire, with such a natural adaptation to the environment, as well as extreme repertoires, such as that of the twentieth century, with absolute skill.

Scherzo

In the voice of Alicia Amo, her music sounded heavenly. This is a singer with a magnificent present and a splendid future. Her voice is warm and enveloping, and her abilities are prodigious. She knows how to treat every possible affection with exquisite care.

Scherzo. Eduardo Torrico

Diario de Cádiz

The voice of Alicia Amo sounds disarmingly natural and has a sustained timbral beauty throughout all the registers, without leaps or color changes and with a remarkable control of the vibrato.

OPERA ACTUAL

The interpretation is performed by the faultless group Musica Boscareccia and its founder, the effective soprano Alicia Amo, a real discovery, great in agility and owner of a beautiful timbre, expressive ability and adaptation to style. Her mastery, talent and dedication make this CD be included in the exclusive OPERA ACTUAL selection.

OPERA ACTUAL. Laura Byron.

Diario de Sevilla

The voice of Alicia Amo showed a lot: personality, variety of colour -vibrated and belcantist in Corselli, naked in the austere Salve by Torres-, perfect stylistic adaptation, with great detail in the small dynamics of each phrase, and beauty of timbre.

Diario de Sevilla. Juan Ramón Lara.

Scherzo

[… ] the three cantatas for soprano that serve to verify the clamorous vocal state through which Alicia Amo is going through , already converted into one of the greatest singers of the current lyric panorama…

Scherzo. Eduardo Torrico.

Diario de Cádiz

In the sonatas for violin and bass, with harsh technical demands, Mercero exhibited a wide range of agility and virtuosity resources alongside his ornamental creativity.

Diario de Cádiz. Andrés Moreno Mengíbar.

Codolario

Mercero is a violinist with an overwhelming stage presence, very confident in tuning and with extreme sound care. This was demonstrated in the Coreselli sonata, in which he amply showed his capacity not only technical but also evocative.

Codalario. Mario Guada.

Scherzo

Mercero is a huge violinist. Or perhaps it should be said that a huge musician, because his admirable skills are not limited to just playing this instrument (and the viola, which he also plays magnificently). His global vision of music is what makes him be far above the majority.

Scherzo. Eduardo Torrico.

Codalario

The ensemble shines at all times in the tutti passages, but also in the most soloistic ones, demonstrating its great malleability and the great joint work carried out. It’s great when you see a job like that.

CODALARIO. Mario Guada.

Musica Boscareccia continues to constitute a solid and insurmountable core. Especially amazing is the unison work carried out by the violins.

The continuum had the usual intelligent, colourful, balanced and tremendously expressive contribution of Mercedes Ruiz with the baroque cello; in addition to the harpsichord of Carlos García-Bernalt and the theorbo of Juan Carlos de Mulder, both very accurate when it comes to drawing up a luminous continuum, bringing expression and not only harmonious sustenance, and developing it with great effectiveness.

Noticias Navarra

The splendid soprano Alicia Amo took the summit of the evening to the aria Pur nel sonno at the men tal’ora of Scarlatti and to the beautiful encore of Handel. Her voice is pristine for this repertoire and she shows great fleshiness in the low register. Her timbre is incisive in the high, but excellently controlled, with some magnificent and exciting

slimming movements towards the pianissimo, the kind that catch the public’s breath and leave them in an expectant silence.
